Co-Current Dynamic Contactor
The main idea here is that both the gas and H2S scavenger enters the bottom of the contactor. The fluids flow upwards and out into a separator that separates the sweetened gas from spent scavenger. These configurations are common in the North American oil and gas industry. They are also referred to as Scavenger towers, H2S Scrubbers, Bubble Towers or Bubble columns.
Counter-Current Dynamic Contactor
In counter-current systems the scavenger level is controlled via a control loop, thus the vessel acts as a separator as well. As the name suggests, gas and scavenger flows in opposite directions, gas upwards and scavenger downwards. Spent scavenger is removed from the bottom of the vessel.
Static Contactor
Static Contactors are the most basic configuration available. The vessel is filled with Scavenger, gas is bubbled through and eventually the tower is replaced with a fresh batch of scavenger.
